“When I first discovered I had such an outstanding collection of vintage clothing, I went to America in 1997 to learn about it. I contacted a boutique in Los Angeles and made an arrangement with the owner that I would send her photographs of pieces and she would select and price the items. We settled on a 50/50 agreement. This La Mendola dress was sold to Italian Vogue, who photographed it as a real centrefold. I was told the dress sold for $3,000 but when I went to New York to visit other vintage dealers, one of them told me the dress had actually sold for $8,000. Whether or not this is true, I don’t know – but I finished doing business in Los Angeles after that.” – Mary Lipshut, Founder of ML Vintage
